Extended Programs

Our Extended Programs provide supported social outings and activities on weekends and evenings for seniors and younger adults with a disability.

Our Extended Programs provide supported social outings and activities for seniors and younger adults with a disability. Our “social clubs” run of an evening and weekend and are for clients with only low support needs, offering an alternative to traditional services.

“BURNIE BUNCH”

The Burnie Bunch is a fun social group for younger adults with an intellectual disability. The group meets on the 1st Saturday of the month for a social outing and the 3rd Thursday evening of the month for dinner, ten-pin bowling etc. An assessment is required and “members” must have low support needs. Costs are kept to a minimum and may vary slightly with different activities or outings.

CARER SOCIAL CLUB

Come along and meet with other carers for a social gathering where you can share information and swap stories in a supportive, relaxed and friendly environment. We meet on the 3rd Monday of each month for a social outing or a guest speaker/activity at the centre. We can help make arrangements for care of your loved one so you can attend; or you may like to bring your loved one with you.

MOVIE CLUB

Are you a keen Movie Buff? Would you like to see the latest releases at the Stafford AMC Cinema or a DVD on the Burnie Brae Big Screen? The Movie Club meets on the 2nd Saturday of the Month and the 4th Tuesday evening of the month. Join the Burnie Brae Movie Club for a great social outing with a fun & friendly bunch of Movie Enthusiasts.

Transport is ONLY available for seniors living within our geographical boundary who have mobility difficulties &/or are socially isolated. An assessment is required. If you are a fitter senior with your own transport you are most welcome to join us at the movies – as some of our Burnie Brae Members do.

Current Costs include: $7.00 for the movie; Approx. $7 for a light meal; $3 for transport (if required & eligible)

SATURDAY CLUB

The Saturday Club provides supported social outings for seniors who have mobility difficulties and/or are socially isolated. We meet on the 3rd and/or 4th Saturday of the month. Previous outings have included: Buderim Ginger Factory, Bribie Island Ferryman, Forrest Hill Post Office Café and Pirates of Penzance at the Powerhouse. An assessment applies and costs are kept to a minimum.

“TAKE US AS WE ARE” SOCIAL GROUP

Take Us as We are is a social group for younger adults with a physical disability, but with low support needs. The group meets on the 2nd Thursday evening of each month for dinner out and occasional Saturdays for a social outing e.g. markets, wheelchair dancing etc.

An assessment is required and costs kept to a minimum, possibly varying a little with outings.
