Who we Are

The Burnie Brae Centre is a large Not-for-Profit Incorporated Association located in the Northern Brisbane suburb of Chermside.

It operates Brisbane’s largest senior citizens centre offering a wide range of social, educational and recreational activities to the over 50’s.

Additionally, the organisation auspices a range of government funded community services for seniors, frail aged persons and younger people with disabilities. All of these programs are intended to support eligible clients to remain living in their own homes and thereby avoiding premature and costly residential support. These services are funded through the Home and Community Care Program (HACC) which is a jointly funded program between the Federal and State Governments. We also auspice a Home Assist Secure project which provides maintenance and security support for those over 60 or younger with a disability. This program is funded by the Queensland Department of Housing.

Our staff and Structure

The Centre currently employs 50+ staff from its Chermside location or from its workshop at Geebung. We also provide a large number of services to clients through brokerage arrangements with other service providers and contractors.

Salary Packaging

The organisation offers all confirmed employees the opportunity to salary package. We are classified by the Australian Taxation Office as a Public Benevolent Institute and as such we are able to offer employees a salary package which basically increases the tax-free threshold and in most cases results in a substantial increase in net pay.

Award Coverage

All employee positions at the Burnie Brae Centre are classified under the Social and Community Services Award (Qld) SACS Award.

Each role advertised in the Burnie Brae Centre has an accompanying‘ position description’ and Statement of Duties. Please read this document carefully as it: Identifies the role, its purpose and expected task performance; and Details the ‘Selection Criteria’ that will be used to determine the most suitable applicant for the role to be interviewed Compile your application.

The following documents need to be included in your application:

  • A completed Application Form
  • A copy of your Resume/Curriculum Vitae;
  • Your responses to the ‘Selection Criteria’ contained in the Position Description;

Addressing the Selection Criteria 

You must address the selection criteria in your application.  Your responses to the selection criteria are an essential part of the recruitment process.      The wording of each criterion tells you the ideal level of knowledge, skill and so on needed for the role. •    ‘Demonstrated’ or ‘proven ability’ means you should have successfully performed the activity or used the skill in the past.      Actual experience rather than potential to perform the activity is required. •    ‘General Ability’ or ‘General Knowledge’ means that you demonstrate the potential to acquire the capability to successfully meet     the selection criteria by comparing the requirement to similar or equivalent experience or studies. •    ‘Thorough’, ‘sound’ or ‘a high level knowledge’ indicates an advanced capability level is required to successfully meet the     criteria.  •    Use “I” statements where possible – the selection committee is interested in what you have done and provide examples of how     you have achieved what the selection criteria is requiring.    

The Selection Process 

•    Applications will be short listed by assessing the applicant’s suitability for the role based on their responses to the selection     criteria.  •    Short listed applicants will be asked to attend a panel interview.  •    Referee checking will occur after the interview process.  •    All interviewed applicants will be advised of the outcome by formal letter.  Feedback is NOT available.
