Burnie Brae provides a range of weekly classes and activity groups – there is something for everyone! These activities are held in the Burnie Brae Hall (60 Kuran St, Chermside) and at Fitzgibbon Community Centre (545 Roghan Rd, Fitzgibbon)

This class focuses on improving your awareness of your body and breath, improving mobility and flexibility, and including relaxation and mindfulness meditation. Please bring a blanket, mat or towel. Experienced instructor Sandi Gibbs will take the class.

Sandi has been a practitioner of yoga for 35 years and a teacher for 10 years. She has an interest in teaching those with chronic conditions and seniors.

Yoga has helped Sandi to manage a chronic health condition for 20 years, a regular meditation practice continues to make a difference. Sandi’s classes focus on mindfulness, breathing, alignment, flexibility and mobility with care and compassion.

Channel your inner ballerina and escape into the enchanted world of ballet!

Our 1-hour classes are modified for seniors but are also suitable for people of any age. Men are encouraged to join in! You won’t see us jumping or turning, instead, we will learn basic ballet techniques at a gentle pace, while having lots of fun! Starting each class on the barre, we will then move into the centre for slow movement and choreography.

NOTE: Please wear either ballet slippers or soft shoes and feel free to dress up ballerina style, if you'd like to!

Clogging is a percussive dance form that originated in the Appalachian Mountains and has similarities to Irish and Tap dancing. It utilises a wide variety of musical genres including, country, bluegrass, pop, hip hop and even latin.

Classes are conducted by Nathan Ballard and Amanda Lim and are suitable for all levels. Each class starts with 30 minutes of FUNdamentals to prepare any first timers/beginners for Basic class.

'Fit Moves' is a fitness class involving movement to music. This is a fun, friendly way to increase the heart rate, raise metabolism, improve balance and coordination, burn calories and work on increasing strength and endurance!

Jo, your instructor, is a qualified personal trainer with over 35 years experience in the health and fitness industry. Come along and work towards improving your overall health and fitness in this class.

Similar to Euchre but with some modifications, 500 is THE card game extraordinaire of antipodeans, even though it was actually invented in the United States in 1904. The game is called 500 because the first players to reach 500 points win.

Ideally you play 500 with four players, with two of the players acting as partners who work together to beat the other two players, who are also partners. You can play with a number of players other than four however, with rule variations for anywhere from two to six players.

We start on the barre with some Ballet strengthening and stretching exercises, then move to the centre for some slow combinations. We put it together into a dance routine, which will have you feeling like you are floating on air.

The sessions are a social gathering where you will get the opportunity to play basic popular songs on acoustic guitar alongside others of a similar ability level.

The aim is not necessary to perform, but a chance to meet with like-minded folks and play music together. Mick is an experienced teacher and musician. He will play along, demonstrate and conduct, assisting and teaching where required. Basic knowledge of chords is recommended. Please bring along your own guitar, capo and picks. Chords and lyrics will be projected to a screen to guide you through the songs.

This class is an eclectic, contemporary blend of gentle yoga postures (also including the opportunity to go into some stronger versions if desired). The class will focus on strength, flexibility, breathing, relaxation and in general getting to know the body and learning to be in the body. It can almost become a moving meditation and will also assist in improved wellbeing in a nurturing environment.

Clinical Pilates is a form of physical exercise that focuses on posture, core stability, balance, control, strength, flexibility, and breathing. The class is conducted by an Exercise Physiologist in the Burnie Brae auditorium.

Sandi has been a practitioner of yoga for 35 years and a teacher for 10 years. She has an interest in teaching those with chronic conditions and seniors.

Yoga has helped Sandi to manage a chronic health condition for 20 years, a regular meditation practice continues to make a difference. Sandi’s classes focus on mindfulness, breathing, alignment, flexibility and mobility with care and compassion.

Our 1-hour classes are modified for seniors but are also suitable for people of any age. Men are encouraged to join in! Clogging is a percussive dance form that originated in the Appalachian Mountains and has similarities to Irish and Tap dancing. It utilises a wide variety of musical genres including, country, bluegrass, pop, hip hop and even latin.

Classes are conducted by Nathan Ballard and Amanda Lim and are suitable for all levels. Each class starts with 30 minutes of FUNdamentals to prepare any first timers/beginners for Basic class.
