Aqua Aerobics 

Exercise in the water with our Aqua Aerobics classes! Improve your fitness with a great all-over workout without the risk of injury. Run by qualified instructions, this activity is held at the Chermside Pool (375 Hamilton Road, beside the Chermside Library).

 

Boxing

A high-energy 45-minute boxing session that is ideal for toning your arms, thighs and stomach. Please bring your own glove liners.

 

Fit Moves 

This is a fitness class involving movement to music. This is a fun, friendly way to increase the heart rate, raise metabolism, improve balance and coordination, burn calories, and work on increasing strength and endurance! Our instructor, Jo is a qualified personal trainer with over 35 years of experience in the health and fitness industry. Come along and work towards improving your overall health and fitness in this class.

Functional Fitness 

Also available at Fitzgibbon Community Centre

This is a specialised fitness class, aimed at improving everyday functionality and health including the following: muscular strength and endurance, aerobic fitness, flexibility, balance, and coordination. (As a response to COVID-19, you will also be required to bring your own mat).

 

High Intensity  

ONLY at Fitzgibbon Community Centre

This high tempo class combines short bursts of high-intensity exercise with periods of lower intensity exercise. It incorporates different modes of exercise such as cardio, boxing, agility, and resistance training to target increased cardiovascular fitness, power, and weight loss.

 

Matwork Pilates 

Clinical Pilates is a form of physical exercise that focuses on posture, core stability, balance, control, strength, flexibility, and breathing. The class is conducted by an Exercise Physiologist in the Burnie Brae hall. (As a response to COVID-19, you will also be required to bring your own mat).

 

Memory through Movement 

The vestibular system is the sensory system often associated with dizziness and balance problems. This class will work on exercises that will help you facilitate the vestibular system through movement, which may assist with improving your reaction time, attention, and memory. Though balance is considered the primary function of this sensory system, it is so much more than that. Come and try this class and see what ‘Memory through Movement’ can do for you! (4-week trial)

 

Qigong (Tai Chi)

This class focuses on slow-flowing, continuous movements, and deep breathing to assist in improving balance, strength, coordination, and releasing stress and tension.

The class will focus on strength, flexibility, breathing, relaxation, and in general, getting to know the body and learning to be in the body. It can almost become a moving meditation and will also assist in improved wellbeing in a nurturing environment. (As a response to COVID-19, you will also be required to bring your own mat).

Channel your inner ballerina and escape into the enchanted world of ballet!

Our 1-hour classes are modified for seniors but are also suitable for people of any age. Men are encouraged to join in! You won’t see us jumping or turning, instead, we will learn basic ballet techniques at a gentle pace, while having lots of fun! Starting each class on the barre, we will then move into the centre for slow movement and choreography.

Clogging is a percussive dance form that originated in the Appalachian Mountains and has similarities to Irish and Tap dancing. It utilises a wide variety of musical genres including, country, bluegrass, pop, hip hop and even latin.

Classes are conducted by Nathan Ballard and Amanda Lim and are suitable for all levels. Each class starts with 30 minutes of FUNdamentals to prepare any first timers/beginners for Basic class.

Similar to Euchre but with some modifications, 500 is THE card game extraordinaire of antipodeans, even though it was actually invented in the United States in 1904. The game is called 500 because the first players to reach 500 points win.

Ideally you play 500 with four players, with two of the players acting as partners who work together to beat the other two players, who are also partners. You can play with a number of players other than four however, with rule variations for anywhere from two to six players.

This class uses low impact cardio exercise to help you facilitate the vestibular system through movement, which may assist with improving your reaction time, attention and memory. Though balance is considered the primary function of this sensory system, it is so much more than that.

This class is an eclectic, contemporary blend of gentle yoga postures (also including the opportunity to go into some stronger versions if desired). The class will focus on strength, flexibility, breathing, relaxation and in general getting to know the body and learning to be in the body. It can almost become a moving meditation and will also assist in improved wellbeing in a nurturing environment.

Clinical Pilates is a form of physical exercise that focuses on posture, core stability, balance, control, strength, flexibility, and breathing. The class is conducted by an Exercise Physiologist in the Burnie Brae auditorium.

Come and join in this fun jam session, with heaps of great songs, warm-up chord drills, tips and tricks. You'll have the opportunity to learn lots of new songs in this 2 hour class!

New to Uke players are very welcome, and are easily catered for with beginner classes held on Tuesdays 10am - 11:30am at the Burnie Brae Centre.
