There’s never been a better time to get online. Feeling confident with technology is so helpful for connecting with others online, accessing services and exploring your interests and curiosities. The possibilities are endless!

Anyone can master technology. With help to grow your skills and awareness, you can feel safe to take the leap and explore the online world.

Our knowledgeable tech tutors can spend an hour with you to get you started.

What do you need help with? Maybe it is:

  • using a smartphone, tablet or laptop
  • emails and text messages
  • connecting online with family and friends
  • social media
  • internet banking
  • shopping online.

Whatever it may be, our tutors can help you master it, at your own pace. We offer one-hour, individual lessons to all Burnie Brae members, where you can ask plenty of questions.

Become a digital mentor

If you’re interested in helping others stay connected, you may enjoy becoming a digital mentor. You don’t need to be a computer guru—you just need to love engaging with others and have an interest in sharing your technology knowledge and skills.

If this sounds like you, we’d love to welcome you to our digital mentor training.

The program involves a brief interview to find out more about you, completion of online training modules and a Zoom training session. Once you’ve been trained, you can use your new skills as a Burnie Brae volunteer or to help mentor your family and friends.

Program feedback

Tutors

“I really enjoy helping people realise the potential of their devices to assist their daily lives in ways that they were not aware of (e.g. with interests and hobbies).”

“It’s wonderful to see the progress learners make and their satisfaction when they master a new skill.”

“Volunteering as a tech tutor has been a great way to learn myself as well as showing someone else. I help out friends who also have problems with phones and simple computer problems.”

Learners

“You don’t know what you don’t know! My lessons have helped me try new things.”

“I loved learning on my loan device, it made such a difference to my life. It proved a point; we should never give up especially if we are given a chance and great help to achieve.”
