We all look forward to the holidays - a time to relax, indulge and press pause on our usual routines. But once the celebrations wind down and everyday life resumes, many people are left with a familiar “fitness hangover.”
Between high-calorie foods, extra rest and time away from routine, getting back into exercise can feel overwhelming.
As the new year begins, some people feel energised to restart their fitness journey, while others struggle with motivation or aren’t sure where to begin. Feeling sluggish, unmotivated or out of rhythm is completely normal. The good news? You don’t have to do it alone. With the right support, structure and environment, getting your exercise “mojo” back can be safe, achievable and even enjoyable.
Here are three simple ways to get back on track and how Healthy Connections can help.
When motivation is low, big fitness goals can feel intimidating. Breaking them down into small, achievable steps makes exercise more manageable and sustainable. Try setting simple daily challenges - a short walk, a few strength exercises or a stretch session. Small wins build confidence, create momentum and make it easier to stay consistent.
At Healthy Connections, our sessions are designed to meet you where you’re at, helping you build confidence gradually in a supportive environment.
Having someone guide and support you can be the key to staying consistent. Burnie Brae’s Exercise Physiologists at Healthy Connections are allied health professionals who tailor exercise programs to your goals, lifestyle and health needs. Regular check-ins and supervised sessions provide accountability, guidance and reassurance - especially if your program needs adjusting along the way.
Knowing that someone is expecting you at a session can be the motivation you need to show up and keep moving.
“There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up.” Getting active is easier - and more enjoyable - when you’re not doing it alone. Exercising with others boosts motivation, builds routine and makes movement more social and fun.

Instead of meeting friends just for coffee, why not join a Healthy Connections exercise session, take a walk together, or enjoy a group class designed to support all fitness levels? When you exercise alongside others, you’re far more likely to stay committed and enjoy the journey.
This year, take the pressure off and focus on progress - not perfection. Join a Healthy Connections exercise session and ease back into movement with expert support, friendly faces and a program that works for you.
