Garden & Home Handy Help

UPDATE: as of September 2026, Burnie Brae no longer has funding available through the Smoke Alarm Subsidy program. However, eligible clients may still be able to have their smoke alarms upgraded through their Home Assist Secure or Commonwealth Home Support Program funding. Enquire now.

Do you need a hand around the house to do gardening, minor maintenance jobs or to improve accessibility?

Home Assist Secure provides government-funded support to help older Queenslanders with critical home maintenance needed to keep you safe at home. We come to your home to help you with things like repairs, minor modifications, safety and security upgrades.

What support services are provided?

Garden Maintence

Basic Garden Maintenance

  • Lawn mowing
  • Hedge trimming/pruning
  • General yard tidying
  • Gutter cleans
Minor Home Repairs

Minor Home Repairs

  • Fixing or replacing door locks
  • Fixing leaking taps & toilets
  • Minor plumbing or electrical work
  • Replacing light bulbs
  • Fridge & washing machine repairs
Home Safety Improvements

Home Safety Improvements

  • Installing security lighting & locks
  • Fitting grab rails, ramps, easy access taps (Occupational Therapist referral required)
  • Safety devices
  • Upgrading smoke alarms
  • Mending faulty powerpoints
  • Supply and install key safe
  • Home security assessments
  • Referrals for larger projects

If you need additional support services not covered by the Home Assist Secure program, you may be eligible for the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) or Support at Home.
