Home Care Funding Types

What Care Funding Is Available?

Looking into care options and feeling overwhelmed? You're not alone. With so many funding programs and support types, it can be tricky to know where to start.

At Burnie Brae, we’re here to guide you through it all, so you can understand what’s available, what you’re eligible for, and how to get the support that’s right for you.

Home Assist Secure

Keeping your home safe, secure and comfortable

Great for: seniors who want to stay independent at home with a few simple improvements

This program is designed to help older people and people with a disability live safely at home. It offers practical help with things like:

  • Minor home repairs
  • Home maintenance - e.g. mowing, gutter cleans
  • Accessibility improvements
  • Home safety checks
  • Upgrading smoke alarms

Eligibility: You may qualify if you’re a homeowner aged over 60 with a current Pension Concession Card, or any age with a disability. Other criteria apply, such as not being in other assistance programs.

Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP)

Just need a bit of help here and there?

Great for: people who want to stay active and social, with a bit of support at home.

CHSP is a great starting point if you’re still independent but could use a hand with everyday tasks. It covers things like:

  • Transport to appointments or shopping
  • Social activities and outings
  • Allied health (like physio or podiatry)
  • Help with cleaning, meal prep, or personal care

It’s flexible, entry-level support to keep you active and independent.

Eligibility: Aged 65 years or older (or 50 years or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people), and needing support to live independently and safely at home. You must register and be assessed with My Aged Care to receive referral codes for services.

Home Care Packages (HCP)*

Need more regular or complex care?

Great for: people with ongoing care needs who want a personalised care plan.

Home Care Packages offer more funding and a tailored care plan to suit your lifestyle. Depending on your needs, support can include:

  • Personal care (e.g. showering, dressing)
  • Nursing and clinical care
  • Housework and home help
  • Transport and social support
  • Allied health and therapy services

We’ll work with you to build a care plan that suits your goals, preferences, and routines.

Eligibility: Aged 65 years or older (or 50 years or older for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people), and coordinated, ongoing support to remain living safely and independently at home. You must register and be assessed with My Aged Care to be allocated a package.

*From 1 November 2025, Support at Home will replace the current Home Care Packages system.

Private Funding

Prefer to arrange care yourself or need something sooner?

Great for: anyone wanting full flexibility or care while waiting for funding approval.

Private funding gives you full control. It can be a great option if you:

  • Prefer to pay directly

  • Are either not eligible or waiting to access funding
