What first drew you to Burnie Brae and what has kept you here all this time?
Burnie Brae was offering a traineeship in office administration, and at 19 with no office experience, it felt like a great opportunity to learn and get my foot in the door. What’s kept me here is the chance to build my skills over time and take on new responsibilities. I’ve also really enjoyed working with amazing people who make the work feel meaningful.
What’s something about your role that most people wouldn’t guess?
Most people probably don’t realise how varied my role is. I work across accounts payable and receivable, end-of-month tasks, lodging BAS with the ATO, and submitting Support at Home claims. There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work—juggling deadlines, problem-solving, and supporting different teams to keep everything running smoothly.
What’s changed the most in your role (or in Burnie Brae) over the past two decades?
The biggest change has been the growth of the organisation. When I started in 2006, Burnie Brae was much smaller - there was no Healthy Connections, Café, Project Pantry, HR, or Home Care Packages (now Support at Home. My office was based where the library is now, and I worked not only in accounts but also at reception, connecting closely with members. A lot of the work was manual back then, but as we’ve grown, systems have made things more efficient. My role has grown alongside that, which has been exciting to be part of.
Have there been any funny or memorable moments in your time here?
I used to bring baby possums into work! I was a wildlife carer at the time and had to feed them every three hours, so they came into the office with me. I’d keep them in a basket under my desk, and staff and members loved seeing them at feeding time.

If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?
Believe in yourself and don’t be afraid to take on new challenges - growth comes from saying yes.
Outside of work, what’s your favourite way to unwind?
I love reading and doing arts and crafts. I’ve tried acrylic, oil, and watercolour painting, as well as embroidery and punch needle. I also enjoy walking with my husband and kids, catching up with friends, and travelling.
What’s one thing about your 20-year journey that you’re most proud of?
I’m proud of how much I’ve grown and the confidence I’ve gained. I’ve progressed from a junior admin role to Finance Officer, and recently completed my Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping, which was a big personal achievement.
After 20 years, what are you most excited about for the next chapter?
I’m excited to keep learning, growing, and supporting the organisation as it continues to evolve. It’s been rewarding to be part of the journey so far, and I’m looking forward to what’s next.
