Tech Confidence for Seniors

For many seniors, technology can sometimes feel confusing, frustrating, or simply too fast-paced.

But with the right support and a little patience, learning new digital skills can become enjoyable, empowering, and incredibly rewarding.

That’s exactly what Bert, one of our dedicated Digital Mentors, has been helping people discover since 2015.

Over the years, Bert has supported more than 2,300 learners, helping seniors gain confidence with everyday technology in a relaxed and friendly environment. From smartphones and tablets to laptops and smart devices, he understands that everyone learns differently - and that no question is ever too small.

In fact, one of the most common questions Bert gets is: “How do I send a photo via email or Messenger?”

While it may sound simple to some, mastering everyday tasks like sharing photos can make a world of difference when it comes to staying connected with children, grandchildren, and friends.

What Bert enjoys most is seeing that spark of confidence when someone realises they can do more than they thought possible. Whether it’s learning how to navigate settings, understanding online safety, or discovering handy shortcuts, every lesson is designed to help seniors feel more comfortable and independent with technology.

Bert also shares plenty of practical tips to make using devices easier, including:

  • Using the microphone feature to speak instead of typing - a simple tool that can save time and make messaging much easier.
  • Organising photos into albums so treasured memories are easy to find and share.
  • And his golden rule: if you’re unsure, ask Google! There’s often a simple answer waiting to be found.

Most importantly, Bert believes technology should never feel intimidating. With patient guidance and personalised support, it can become a valuable way to stay informed, connected, entertained, and independent.
