So, what does that actually mean for you?

In simple terms, there’s no immediate change to your CHSP support. You can continue accessing your CHSP-funded services under the current program while the broader aged care system continues to change.

The Australian Government says:

“We have listened to the feedback people have given us about CHSP, and we’re giving providers and older Australians the certainty they need to continue while the future of the program is developed.” The Hon Mark Butler MP, Minister for Health and Ageing

What happened to the planned CHSP changes?

You may have heard that CHSP was going to transition to the new Support at Home program.

The transition was originally planned for 30 June 2027.

That’s now been pushed back to 30 June 2029.

For CHSP clients, this means two more years to continue with the current program while the government works through what the future of CHSP will look like.

What is CHSP?

CHSP is designed to provide a helping hand with everyday life, so older Australians can stay independent, active and connected at home and in their community.

Depending on your needs and eligibility, CHSP funding can help you access services such as:

• Allied health
• Social support
• Transport
• Personal care
• Respite
• Domestic assistance
• Meals
• Home maintenance

The services you can access will depend on your individual needs and circumstances. There are some services like domestic assistance and home maintenance that may be at capacity, so please contact us to see if there is availability.

If you need a higher level of support, you may be able to access Support at Home funding through My Aged Care.

So, what do you need to do?

For now, nothing! If you’re currently receiving CHSP support, you can continue accessing your services under the current arrangements.

The government will use this additional time to consider and consult on the future of CHSP, so there may be changes down the track.

But for now, you have more time and certainty around the support you already receive.
